Need Help Keeping Those
New Year’s Resolutions?

The following short (but powerful) article by Lyndsay Swinton can supercharge your motivation to change your life in positive and exciting ways. Following her five-step plan for creating and attaining goals is a marvelous way to get a jumpstart on your resolutions for 2006. As we enter a New Year full of anticipation, goals, plans, and the unknown, let us chart a course that leads to personal fulfillment, natural health, and radiant wellbeing!

How To Keep New Years Resolutions:
5 Goal Setting Tips

“What am I doing? Where am I going? There’s got to be more to life than this!….” New Years resolutions spring up from our attempts to answer such tricky questions. I won’t pretend to know the answers, but I can share 5 goal setting tips on how to keep New Years resolutions. After all, the quickest New Years resolutions to be broken are usually quickly formed, poorly thought out goals.

Goal Setting Tip 1: Once a year is enough, thanks!

It’s healthy to ask big questions about where your life is going, but ask them too often and you’ll end up in a bog of directionless despair. Take the pressure off, and only ask the big questions once, or at most, twice a year.

Goal Setting Tip 2: 7 is the magic number

George Miller, a 1950’s psychologist, proposed that we can only deal with 7 bits of information at any one time. Any more information and we need to group things into more memorable, manageable chunks. So when you create your New Year master plan, keep goals down to a manageable number and group similar areas.

Goal Setting Tip 3: I say tomayto, you say tomato…let’s call the whole thing off!
A common mistake when setting goals is insufficient detail. This can cause problems when we need to articulate these goals to workmates, life partners or even to ourselves. As an example of why this is important when goal setting, think of a house.

I have a particular house in mind, which is probably entirely different to the house you’re picturing. Is your house made of brick or wood? How many rooms does your house have? Is your house full of people or are you the sole resident? Imagine the arguments if we had the joint goal of buying a house together!

Keep New Years resolutions by writing your goals in enough detail for everyone to understand and agree what’s meant. So, for example, if your goal is to buy a house, put some flesh on the bones by saying your goal is to buy a 3 bedroom house, with a garden, near work, for no more than 3 times your salary.

Goal Setting Tip 4: Keep it real!

You are more likely to achieve realistic goals. That’s not to say you can’t shoot for the stars and pursue your dreams; break up your mega goal into smaller, more manageable mini goals, and you’re more likely to achieve your dream.

Goal Setting Tip 5: Fantastic fibbing
Here’s an unusual game to play. Start a conversation with a friend, family member or hijack someone from the street. Tell them they are going to help get your life on track, and all they have to do is ask a few choice questions.

Start to tell them the story of, for example, your New Years resolution to find and start your dream job. Tell them what it's like in the studio or office, the people you work with and meet as part of your job, what your daily schedule looks like. Get them to ask you questions about how you got there (e.g., how did you get the interview, who spotted your business card, etc.).

This is where you will be put on the spot and have to come up with plausible answers. Aim to "keep it real" with your answers. That is, don't rely on winning the lottery to fund your plans! Keep this conversation going as long as possible, with as much detail as you can muster.

This might sound like complete madness, telling fantastic fibs or untruths about how you achieved your New Years resolution. The truth is that the questions they ask will forge links in your mind, creating a map that make it easier for you to achieve your long term goal. Just make sure you write down the steps you took to achieve your goal!

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

I hope these 5 goal setting tips show you how to keep New Years resolutions and achieve your goals. Follow this link for a more detailed free goal setting guide, including examples and templates to ensure you achieve your goals.

How Drug Companies
Deceive Doctors

By Shane Ellison, M.Sc.

Copyright © 2005 All Rights Reserved

Following a doctor’s orders has become synonymous with danger.  Every year, FDA approved drugs kill twice as many people as the total number of U.S. deaths from the Vietnam War.(1) Death by medicine flourishes because deceit – not science – governs a doctor’s prescribing habits.  As an ex-drug chemist, I witnessed this first-hand.

This deceit comes in many forms.  Medical ghostwriting and checkbook science are the most prominent.

Doctors rely on peer-reviewed medical journals to learn about prescription drugs.  These journals include the Lancet, British Medical Journal, New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.  It is assumed that these professional journals offer the hard science behind any given drug.  This assumption is wrong.  Medical journals can’t be trusted, thanks to medical ghostwriting.

Medical ghostwriting is the practice of hiring PhD’s to crank out drug reports that hype benefits and hide negative side effects. Once complete, drug companies recruit doctors to put their name on the report as authors. These reports are then published in the above-mentioned medical journals.(2) The carrot for this deceitful practice is money and prestige.  Ghostwriters can receive up to $20,000 per report.  Doctors receive prestige from having been published.  Ultimately, patients get bad drugs disguised as good medicine.

As deplorable as medical ghostwriting sounds, it is more common than you think.  The world’s most influential medical journal, the New England Journal of Medicine, has admitted that 50% of their drug articles are ghostwritten.

The editor of the British Journal of Medicine has acknowledged that medical ghostwriting has become a serious problem for his publication: “We are being hoodwinked by the drug companies. The articles come in with doctors’ names on them and we often find some of them have little or no idea about what they have written.”(3)

Consider the testimony from deputy editor of The Journal of the American Medical Association:  “This [journal article writing] is all about bypassing science.  Medicine is becoming a sort of Cloud Cuckoo Land, where doctors don’t know what papers they can trust in the journals, and the public doesn’t want to believe.”(4)

Another weapon of mass deception exists: checkbook science.  As defined by Diana Zuckerman, PhD, checkbook science is research intended not to expand knowledge or to benefit humanity, but instead to sell drugs.  It has stolen the very soul of University research, scientific method, and the patients who serve as human subjects.(5)

Drug companies use checkbook science to sponsor their own drug research via the halls of academia and government institutions.  Money is used to design their own studies, interpret the results, and stuff negative data under the drug-rug.  The drug-rug is a behemoth rug.  It has to be.  A myriad of negative drug data exists.

Like medical ghostwriting, checkbook science is more common than you think.  A third of academic professors have personal financial ties to drug makers.(6) Called the “Stealth Merger” by the LA Times, top scientists at the National Institutes of Health also collect paychecks and stock options from the drug industry.(7) This has been going on for over 20 years.(8) Known as the Bayh-Dole Act, U.S law was amended in 1980 to allow for these flagrant conflicts of interest.

This calculated deceit is scandalous.  Hopefully the line at the pharmaceutical trough will get shorter as this scandal becomes public, but drug makers have an insurance policy for this: Direct-to-Consumer advertising.  The oft-repeated and -heard phrase “ask your doctor” ensures that the herd instinctively embraces drugs, drugs and more drugs.

Understanding medical ghostwriting and checkbook science explains why medical doctors have been hypnotized into drug worship – they only see the positive.  It also explains why modern medicine is more deadly and lucrative than war – the danger has been silenced with the pen and money.

Drug companies do not take responsibility for the wanton prescription drug deceit.  Instead, victims have been made invisible and dehumanized.  They are not recognized for what they are: children, women, and men with significant contributions to make to society.  Their deaths are simply shrugged off and attributed to sickness or aging.

Those who profit from prescription drugs should hold some sort of record for the having the most reckless disregard for human life.  If the deceit continues the prescription drug leviathan will silently kill more people than Napalm dropped on Vietnamese villages.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

Eating in the Dark:
America’s Experiment with
 Genetically Engineered Food

Kathleen Hart is a journalist who has been writing about health and the environment for more than fifteen years. She has covered agriculture and biotechnology for Food Chemical News and has reported on nuclear power and nonproliferation for McGraw-Hill’s Nucleonics Week. She previously served as editor of the Environmental Health Letter. Her articles have appeared in the Boston Globe and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, among other publications.

Most Americans eat genetically modified food on a daily basis – this has become fact. Yet only a small percentage of them are even aware that the foods they are eating have been altered on a genetic level. For some reason, the FDA doesn’t require that food labels provide information about genetically engineered ingredients, and somehow, the subject has stayed remarkably low on the radars of mass media. If any of this startles you or makes you wary, then Kathleen Hart’s book Eating in the Dark: America’s Experiment with Genetically Engineered Food will leave you breathless.

“In refusing repeated consumer pleas for labels on genetically engineered foods, the FDA has prevented Americans from making an informed choice about the foods we eat and feed our families. Around the world, from Europe to Asia, doctors and ordinary customers are watching us, with curiosity, to see whether the genetically modified foods in our diet will turn out to be safe. Especially, they are watching our children, the first generation to be raised on these new biotech foods.” (Page 9)

Hart has taken an monumental leap into the forray of the biotechnology world, where large, power- and money-hungry companies are busily-but-quietly creating genetically-modified versions of foods that they are practically forcing onto American tables. Hart has interviewed an amazing number of scientists, farmers, industry members and activists, and has gained unprecedented access to the shadowy worlds of the Environmental Protection Agency, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration, which have all contributed to the nationwide spread of the questionable, untested, and potentially harmful genetically-altered foods that we blithely consume.

Organic farmers, conventional growers, and food manufacturers told USDA officials at a mid-April 2001 meeting in Washington D.C. that “it has become nearly impossible in America to grow, buy, or sell corn and soybeans that are not contaminated with biotech genes.” (Page 271)

From the first page, the reader is introduced to a reality that seems more like science-fiction than not, as Hart presents moment after moment a tapestry of backwards science, bizzare politics, and baleful biotech innovations woven by American scientists and government leaders, whose interests apparently stretch no further than their bank accounts. As she plumbs the depths of the genetically-modified food story, Hart explains how it all began (in the late 1990s by a shifty chemical company called Monsanto), how it flowered into dominance in the American food chain (the FDA says genetically-modified foods are safe, while more than 475 million Europeans and Asians refuse to eat them), and how it has only slowly, but clearly, begun to come to light (as with the young woman who went into anaphylactic shock after eating a brand name taco shell).

If you want to know about the pesticide that you may be eating with every bite of your potato, or the corn that has proven lethal to monarch butterflies and may be just as toxic to humans, then this book is for you. Likewise, if you’re curious about the political intrigues that have allowed food labels in the U.S. to remain free of genetically-modified warnings while such labeling is demanded by law in many other countries that import the same foods, this is a must-read. And if you are interested in knowing about the next wave of planned biotech foods (such as wheat that produces its own insecticide, which countless people may end up eating on a daily basis), it’s time to get a copy of this book in your hands.

“The FDA acknowledged that the overwhelming majority of the 50,000 Americans who wrote to the government following the three public meetings held in the fall of 1999 asked for ‘mandatory disclosure of the fact that the food or its ingredients was bioengineered or was produced from bioengineered food.’ However, the agency justified ignoring those comments on the grounds that Americans had failed to provide a list of specific problems attributable to long-term ingestion of the foods. The government apparently expects clairvoyance of its citizens, since by definition ‘long-term consequences’ may not become manifest for fifteen to twenty years or more.” (Page 270)

Considering the fact that 67% of American consumers haven’t heard of genetically modified foods or don’t know enough about them to form an opinion, Eating in the Dark is a clarion call, maybe even a prophetic warning…

As a board certified Holistic Health Practitioner, I fully endorse this book.

SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE

Want a Healthier Heart?
Join The Spiritual Cinema Circle!
by Ryan N. Harrison, MA, HHP

After reading The Instinct to Heal, by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD, it becomes easy to see that the recent thrill-seeking trend in human culture is taking its toll on our bodies, and especially on our hearts. A relatively unknown fact is that the heart is a small hormone factory in and of itself. It produces its own supply of adrenaline, which it releases when it needs to function at maximum capacity. The heart also creates and controls the release of another hormone called ANF (atrial natriuretic factor). This hormone regulates blood pressure. Both of these become important when the autonomic nervous system signals the brain and heart to turn on the “fight or flight” response. Likewise, when the parasympathetic nervous system decides the threat has passed and puts on the brakes, the heart responds by slowing down and ceasing to release the hormones mentioned above. This is a very natural part of life. But something unnatural is working its way into the equation.

It has become a favorite pastime of some people to create their own stressful situations. Our culture seeks out “thrilling” entertainment that in effect, speeds up the heart and produces an adrenaline “rush.” We flock to faster and scarier roller coasters, engage in extreme sports, experience road rage and freeway frustrations, and actually pay money to view suspenseful and frightening movies that keep us up all night. Each of these things, from the heart’s perspective, elicits the “fight or flight” response, demanding a surge of energy and hormone production as well as the ability to “put on the brakes” over and over again. (Unfortunately, this is one set of brakes that we can’t easily change!) While the “fight or flight” response itself is a completely natural one, the fact that we are constantly forcing our hearts to speed up and slow down puts a tremendous strain on them.

Science has proven that stress is hard on the body. It is well known today that chronic stress produces anxiety and depression and can lead to insomnia, wrinkles, high blood pressure, palpitations, backaches, skin and digestive complaints, chronic infections, infertility, and sexual impotence. Beyond that, Servan-Schreiber writes that even negative emotions such as anger, sadness, and even ordinary worries, “reduce cardiac variability the most and sow chaos in our physiology” (pg. 45). And yet, we submit ourselves to harsh stress and emotional disquiet on a nearly daily basis.

Isn’t it time you gave your heart a break?

One of the ways that you can strengthen your heart’s ability to respond to life’s daily challenges is to experience positive emotions like joy, gratitude, and especially, love. These emotions appear to actually promote what’s called “heart coherence”: your heart’s ability to accelerate and slow down in a smooth and harmonious manner (Servan-Schreiber, pg. 43). If you need a suggestion to help you experience these life-affirming feelings on a regular basis, you’re in luck!

Stephen Simon, movie director and producer of such box office hits as What Dreams May Come and Somewhere in Time, recognized the powerful effect that media has upon our culture. He co-founded an organization called The Spiritual Cinema Circle with the intent of providing for others hours of entertainment that will touch the heart and inspire the soul. “Spiritual cinema” examines who we are and why we are here, and illuminates the human condition through stories and images that inspire us to explore what we can be when we operate at our very best.

Each month, the Circle distributes 4 spiritual films on DVD to a worldwide audience of members in over 70 countries. It is the first distribution company exclusively dedicated to Spiritual Cinema. Unlike video rental services, the movies do not need to be returned and are instead collected by members to create a whole library of inspiring movies that can be watched and enjoyed countless times. The monthly movie collections include a wide variety of films, many of which have won major festival awards, but which are unlikely to be seen elsewhere, largely because the entertainment industry doesn’t find “spiritual cinema” to be profitable enough.

This year, make it a resolution to treat your heart well! When you join The Spiritual Cinema Circle it’s like getting two gifts for the price of one: award-winning, life-affirming entertainment, and a healthier heart, mind, and spirit.

Drug Induced Malnutrition
By Lena Sanchez

Malnutrition is running rampant world wide, caused by foods that no longer contain the proper nutrients. In centuries past the fruits, grains and vegetables contained more and better minerals and vitamins, which were gleaned from the ground they were grown in. As farmers dropped the normal rotations of ground building crops, the nutrient content has dropped to about one-tenth of the past nutrients. But another danger looms large in the malnutrition arena, and when added to the lack of nutrients in our foods, is creating a HUGE pool of illnesses.

Some commonly prescribed drugs cause severe nutritional deficiencies all by themselves. Nearly every manmade drug takes a heavy toll in unwanted and dangerous side effects with malnutrition being the most common denominator.

The following medications and chemicals contribute to creating malnutrition and chemical toxicity, setting the stage for serious illnesses;

1. DIURETICS for high blood pressure wash potassium, magnesium, sodium, zinc and vitamin B2 right out of your body along with the water. Even more alarming is the report from the National Institutes of Health in November 1998 in which researchers stated diuretics also increase the risk of kidney cancer.

2. CHOLESTEROL LOWERING MEDICATIONS deplete numerous vitamins: B2, C, D, niacin, folic acid, biotin as well as the minerals; calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and several trace minerals.

3. ESTROGEN REPLACEMENT DRUGS, such as Premarin, can leave you deficient in all the B complex vitamins and vitamin C, as well as two very important minerals to the heart: magnesium and zinc.

4. ANTACIDS steal from your tissues important life-altering vitamins A and B1, folic acid along with the minerals calcium, copper, iron and phosphorus.

5. ANTIBIOTICS deplete numerous vitamins: B2, C, D, niacin, folic acid, biotin and the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc, while killing the good flora that keep our intestines healthy. This makes it even more dangerous, creating the inability to absorb the nutrients we do consume and making waste elimination very difficult, while creating the atmosphere for yeast overgrowth.

6. SHAMPOOS & CONDITIONERS that are chemical based may contain any number of harmful chemicals, but a couple that have drawn attention in the last decade are DEA and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), which are absorbed into your blood stream, making changes in our hormonal systems that in turn create an environment for cancer and other diseases.

7. CHLORINE in our municipal water systems has been proven to cause cancers of all types, with bathing in chlorinated water being worse than drinking it! Neither is healthy! Bottled water still has chlorine, so don't feel that you are safe just because you drink bottled water. A purified source – such as water that is distilled or filtered via reverse osmosis – is your best bet.

8. ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES (NSAIDS) stop the production of good prostaglandins, which promote healing of the joints and cartilage.  Without those prostaglandins doing their job it causes further damage to your joints and muscles. This sets up an environment for arthritis and other bone and joint damage.

9. ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES can result in a deficiency of folate.

10. ANTACIDS like Rolaids or Maalox can weaken bones by hindering their mineral uptake.

11. ASPIRIN taken on a regular basis by an arthritis or heart patient can deplete the body of iron. It also disintegrates the stomach lining, making for incomplete digestion of anything put into it!

12. Then comes the champion killer: CORTISONE! Cortisone is a steroid hormone that is produced naturally by our adrenal glands. It helps the body store glucose, an energy-food source. It helps the body regulate its use of fats, salts and blood and helps the body deal with stress, among other things. But along came the synthetic form of cortisone called prednisone.

Doctors use cortisone, which now comes in many names, because it is a very powerful drug for reducing swelling. Never mind that it doesn't really help the underlying problem creating the swelling. It can be taken as a pill or injected directly into joints, making our fast food society happy that they don’t have to do anything but sit there and take the magic little pill or get that magic injection that stops the pain “right now.”

What does cortisone/Prednisone do to you? First it masks the pain and does nothing to treat the cause of the pain.

Second, ongoing use begins wearing away and eroding the naturally smooth bone surfaces that glide against each other at joints, setting you up for bigger problems later.

By giving your body cortisone it sends your adrenal glands the wrong signals, making them wonder what to do next. Over a prolonged time, they will shut down from that confusion. Then come the mood swings, the weight gain caused from a voracious appetite created by the cortisone/Prednisone.  The kidneys will really struggle to keep up the filtration needed to wash out the chemicals; the liver will be overworked and you just may end up with Hepatitis or cirrhosis.

13. PROZAC can decrease the appetite in some while increasing the appetite in others and depleting the system of more nutrients than I have space to list here! (Judging from the myriad of side effects, probably just about every nutrient!) I watched devastating things happen to patients after Prozac came on the market, yet until I looked at the drug company's website I didn't know the half of it. This is one scary prescription!

Did you get the point here? Your medications may be creating more illness for you!

Do some research and try natural treatments. Try taking care of the area of the body that is causing the problem.  Proper eating, exercise, supplementing with minerals, vitamins and herbs can create a healthy body! Stop being lazy and letting someone else determine whether you are healthy or ill.

MOTIVATIONAL TIPS

A Strategy for Reading Textbooks

SQRW is a four-step strategy for reading and taking notes from chapters in a textbook. Each letter stands for one step in the strategy. Using SQRW will help you to understand what you read and to prepare a written record of what you learned. The written record will be valuable when you have to participate in a class discussion and again when you study for a test. Read to learn what to do for each step in SQRW.

Survey.
Surveying brings to mind what you already know about the topic of a chapter and prepares you for learning more. To survey a chapter, read the title, introduction, headings, and the summary or conclusion. Also, examine all visuals such as pictures, tables, maps, and/or graphs and read the caption that goes with each. By surveying a chapter, you will quickly learn what the chapter is about.

Question.
You need to have questions in your mind as you read. Questions give you a purpose for reading and help you stay focused on the reading assignment. Form questions by changing each chapter heading into a question. Use the words who, what, when, where, why, or how to form questions. For example, for the heading "Uses of Electricity" in a chapter about how science improves lives, you might form the question "What are some uses of electricity?" If a heading is stated as a question, use that question. When a heading contains more than one idea, form a question for each idea. Do not form questions for the Introduction, Summary, or Conclusion.

Read.
Read the information that follows each heading to find the answer to each question you formed. As you do this, you may decide you need to change a question or turn it into several questions to be answered. Stay focused and flexible so you can gather as much information as you need to answer each question.

Write.
Write each question and its answer in your notebook. Reread each of your written answers to be sure each answer is legible and contains all the important information needed to answer the question.

As you practice using SQRW, you will find you learn more and have good study notes to use to prepare for class participation and tests.

HINT: Once you complete the Survey step for the entire chapter, complete the Question, Read, and Write steps for the first heading. Then complete the Question, Read, and Write steps for the second heading, and so on for the remaining headings in the chapter.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

"We have a role
and responsibility
in our health"

"Donuts for breakfast. Burgers, fries and root beer for lunch. Dinner’s pizza and for snacks, plenty of cookie/ candy bar breaks. That was the typical and very S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) diet of my twenties. My mother did her best with me, starting with one of the best things a mom can do: breastfeeding her children. She cooked in a ‘Mediterranean’ style – lots of onions, garlic and olive oil. (And she is nonstop activity to this day, at 78.) But as soon as I was on my own I was off chasing a dietary rainbow, like M & M’s and frosting. Cakes were my favorite so I took up cake decorating - and I have made hundreds and hundreds of cakes! I am a little embarrassed to say that during this time in my life, I had no idea that food had any connection at all with a person’s state of health. (In her consoling way, a daughter pointed out that neither do many doctors!)

By the end of my twenties, I had four children and had become a single parent. At 30, there were major changes in my life. I married a wonderful man (we’ve had 17 exciting years so far….) and I was beginning to see the light, that health was not a ‘random act’ – striking this one with cancer and blessing that one with a hundred years of good health. It’s not a matter of luck, like the rolling of dice, but we have a role and a responsibility in our health. If we work with our bodies, which are so awesomely made, we can determine much of what our lives will be like 5, 10 and 20 years from now. Through my thirties I had 5 more children (can anyone be more blessed?) and I made changes in my eating as well as read everything I could get a hold of about health. I became a regular guinea pig – the things I tried in the name of health! During my forties, my health ‘fad’ did not pass, unlike many other things in my life. If anything, my interest grew until I believed it was my calling: Find out what was true and what was not, what worked and pass it on to a hurting world. You don’t have to look far to see what I mean. Your family, your friends, how many of them could have a better life, be set free, if they only knew how? So I decided that was what I would do: Learn and share. I am in the learning phase now and am like a kid in a candy shop! (Bad example? Not really, because contrary to what I believed could ever be possible, I have found so many things that are better than candy!)

I have four extra special grandchildren, and another on the way (what did I say about being more blessed?) that I hope to share with someday.

Your story is probably different than mine, but if you recognize the reality of our health as our heritage, that there is a better way than pills, drugs and surgery, and you believe you could make a better future for yourself and those around you, I heartily recommend jumping in. I have not completed the course, but so far have found it to be organized, informational and very interesting. I am very excited about the future and I wish you the best in yours!"

as many places as I could call and write to. All replies were excellent"

"Hi, everyone. I am a paramedic and I have studied natural medicine, reflexology, acupressure, and massage therapy on my own for approx. 12 yrs. I really became interested in Holistic medicine when my wife who is a nurse was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) & fibromyalgia (FM). As we visited various doctors I realized none of them had a clue about fibromyalgia. I also realized that I knew more about these diseases than they did. I have taken time to read and study about FMS and CFS. I know with this training from GCMN I will be able to help my wife and others who suffer. When I stumbled across GCNM a couple of months ago it really excited me, knowing I could get some formal training from a good school. Before I signed up I checked out GCMN through as many places as I could call and write to. All replies were excellent."

"On the path to better
well-being and nutrition"

"
My name is Roger and I am a new student of the Nutritional Consultant course. I don’t have any experience in this area. I was turned on to this topic because my wife bought the book by Kevin Trudeau about Natural Cures. I plan on reading it at some point but my wife has told me about the information she has read. While we may not agree with everything, it did open our eyes to information about natural healing and nutrition. My wife has enrolled in the Master Herbalist program. Between the two of us, we have more than enough information to help us on the path to better well-being and nutrition. Our goal is to complete our respective programs and move on to the holistic health practitioner program. Our ultimate goal is to open our own business based on our combined knowledge."

"The materials and
online support have more than exceeded my expectations"

"Dear GCNM, I just wanted to write and officially thank you for the Nutrional Consultant Certification course. I have been involved in the 'Fitness' world for the last 15 years. Most of what I was taught had to do with the outside of the body and not the inside. I now know there is more to being 'healthy' than just working out. I’ve learned things about detoxification, nutrition, and true health and wellness that have totally altered my and my family's life. The materials and online support have more than exceeded my expectations, and the course covered everything in a clear, concise manner. I can hardly wait to start my business of consulting others who wish to achieve ultimate wellness. Thanks again. Best of Health."

"I was so impressed...
I completed the program
within 6 months"

“My name is Cherie Hanks and I proudly endorse the Global College of Natural Medicine programs. I was diagnosed with complex seizure disorder. For the past 24 years I have had seizures for two weeks out of every month.

The medical profession gave me three options: I could take synthetic anti-seizure medication. I went this route and become more ill then I was before the medication. The seizures were constant. Found out after the fact that I was allergic to anything synthetic.  Next option: I could have brain surgery. My chances on surgery were quite grim. I might be better, no guarantee that I would ever be seizure free, but I had a better chance of becoming much worse. So surgery was out. My third option was just to continue living the way I was. These three options were not acceptable to me. Such began my quest for better health.

I began to study everything I could on health and nutrition. I started by changing my diet and lifestyle. I noticed an immediate change. I realized more people could benefit from what I know so I began pursuit to become a nutritional consultant.

The first program I tried I was highly disappointed in and did not feel that the information was valid. Then I ran across GCNM and began their nutritional consultant program. I was so impressed with the abundance of information I was acquiring. I completed the program within 6 months.

I believe I now have the knowledge and tools to better serve my clientele. I also teach health and nutrition at the middle school where I work.

I am so awed by the nutritional consultant program, I am continuing my education with the Holistic Health Practitioner Program and the Master Herbalist Program. Thanks GCNM.”

"I am enjoying the
program so much!"

"My name is Danielle Kellar and I am enrolled in the Nutritional Consultant program. I just wanted to tell you that I am enjoying the program so much!  I am so glad you have this distance learning program so I can juggle all my life responsibilities and find time to further myself and education. Being a recently widowed, now single mom, I did not think I would have ever been able to find time to further my education or career. I have already learned so much in this program. I have been involved with natural health and fitness for most my life and thought there wasn't much left for me to learn. Boy was I wrong!!

I really love this course and am so excited to complete it and get started helping people become healthy! Thank you so much. God Bless!"

"Well organized and
easy to understand"

“I received the study materials yesterday, listened to the first cassette and reviewed a few of the books. I’m so happy with how well organized and easy to understand the program is. It’s simple and at the same time very informative. Dr. Weil’s first cassette has me very excited to complete this course. He is so matter of fact, down to earth and spiritual without being too flighty. I researched several schools till I found this one through a search on yahoo.com. Thank you again. It’s a reasonable price for such a great course."

"I plan to put my new found wisdom to good use"

“I’ve been interested in herbs and nutrition for many years but never had the time to receive the proper training. I’ve done a lot of reading and experimenting on my own with natural remedies and tried my best to live a wholesome and healthy life. (You probably wouldn’t guess that I have a grandson who’s almost eight. Living healthy is the best remedy against old age!)

When I signed up with GCNM I didn’t expect to learn a lot of new things but I was so wrong! The course was full of so much incredible and useful information. As soon as my box arrived I started studying and I haven’t been able to stop since. It’s almost addictive. I don’t care about TV or going shopping, I just want to soak up all this knowledge. I wish so much I had known about all these things when my parents were still alive. Maybe I could have helped them or perhaps spared them from some of the agony they endured through the ‘marvels’ of modern medicine. I know it’s never too late and I plan to put my new found wisdom to good use.”

Feel the Force

Nutrients for Life!

When was the last time you felt
fully alive? In top condition?
Totally healthy?

Most health experts agree, if you are not taking a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement, chances are you’re not getting the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you need to experience great health and wellness. The sad truth is that the “modern American diet” has become so nutrient-poor in quality that the foundation of an overall health maintenance program has shifted from what you eat to what supplements you take.

“Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone…
It appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements.”

~ Journal of the American Medical Association

In addition, pollution, toxins, pesticides, junk food, cigarette smoking and stress all contribute to an excessive load of free radicals – rampant molecules produced by the body that attack and damage cell membranes and tissues. It is recognized that more than 60 human diseases involve free radical damage, including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and many other chronic diseases.

Antioxidants are nature’s free radical fighters and naturally occur in fresh fruits and vegetables. There are many clinical trials which show that antioxidants lessen the impact of degenerative diseases. Therefore, if you are not getting enough variety and quantity of antioxidants, supplementation is a necessary part of your health maintenance program

DetoxiGreen is a professionally formulated, broad-spectrum antioxidant supplement, specifically designed to support vibrant, long-term health. DetoxiGreen provides the optimal potency of essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and other vital nutrients in a synergistically balanced combination. Containing 45 different nutrients, including green “superfoods” (such as Spirulina, Green Tea extract, Barley Grass and others), DetoxiGreen helps maintain a healthy immune system and prevent any nutrient deficiencies. At the same time, it does not contain iron which can be harmful in large doses, especially for men. This comprehensive, vegetarian formula – for men and women, alike – is a perfect daily supplement.

DrNatura.com recommends the long-term daily use of this comprehensive multiple antioxidant formula as a cornerstone of an overall health maintenance program.
