The Importance of
Being Alkaline by Wallace G. Heath, Ph.D. To
understand why the alkalinity or acidity of the water-based liquids
is important to health, we need to understand how the body controls
the ionization levels of its fluids. Different pH levels support
different types of chemistry, so it's essential that body fluids be
maintained within very narrow acid/alkaline limits. Your health is
extremely sensitive to the slightest change in the pH level of your
body's vital fluids. Stomach fluid, for example, is extremely
acidic, with a pH of 1.5 (pH less than 7 is acid, more than 7 is
alkaline). Pancreatic fluid, on the other hand, is quite alkaline,
with a pH of 8.8. The pH inside of our cells ranges from 6.8 to 7.1.
The most important balance of all is maintained in our blood, where
the pH is very tightly controlled between 7.35 and 7.45.
Your body will act to neutralize acidic drinks such as colas and
coffee with alkaline blood buffers, which are then unavailable to
neutralize other acidic waste products continually produced by the
body, including organic by-products of digestion such as acetic
acid, lactic acid, carbonic acid, uric acid, and fatty acids. There
are also inorganic by-products created or found in food, such as
sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. When the body's limited supply of
alkaline buffers is defeated, these toxic acidic waste products
accumulate in the body, causing significant health damage.
The body uses calcium to convert the poisonous liquid phosphoric
acid in colas into the more stable solid phosphates, for example.
But these phosphates may form into calcified kidney stones, or
calcium deposits (which can also result from a urinary infection,
inherited metabolic disorders, and other causes). Many people
erroneously think kidney stones are caused by excessive calcium. But
the real culprit may be the high level of phosphoric acid, which
happens to be a primary ingredient of colas. Anyone with a concern
about kidney stones should avoid colas.
Consuming acidic foods such as soft drinks may also create an ideal
environment for cancer to form. Animal cells survive best in an
alkaline environment with a blood pH of 7.35 to 7.45. Plant cells
are the opposite; they prefer an acidic environment. As our bodies
become increasingly acidic, some cells adapt through an internal
evolutionary process and become more like plant cells. These
abnormal plantlike cells have a high tendency to become cancer
cells, which thrive in an acidic environment. So an important
strategy for preventing or treating cancer is to maintain an
alkaline environment in the body.
Routine consumption of soft drinks containing phosphoric acid (that
is, colas) is a risk factor for bone loss. Consumption of
alkalinizing mineral water helps retain bone health and improve
digestive functions. A comprehensive review comparing alkalinizing
diets to acidic diets reported in The American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition concluded that alkalinizing diets improve bone density,
nitrogen balance, and serum growth hormone concentrations, whereas
the low-grade acidosis resulting from acidic diets contributes to
bone loss, osteoporosis, and loss of muscle.
Not all acidic foods increase the acidity inside our bodies. Orange
juice, for example, has an extremely acidic pH of 3.5 because of its
citric acid content, but the citric acid is burned away during
digestion. Orange juice also contains potassium and magnesium, which
interact with water to create alkaline ions. Thus, the overall
effect of drinking orange juice is to increase alkalinity, despite
its acidic content. The inability of your body to fully detoxify
underlies many disease processes, including heart disease and
cancer. Oxygen free radicals (molecules unpaired with electrons) are
highly reactive substances that are deficient in electrons and can
cause enormous damage to the body if not quickly neutralized.
Adequate alkaline reserves offer a first line of defense against
these oxygen free radicals by providing free electrons, which
neutralize the radicals and prevent them from damaging healthy
cells.
Other Health Issues with Water
Tap water can contain impurities, including inorganic poisons and
pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The water
alkalinizing devices we recommend also include filters that remove
such impurities, along with an ultraviolet light system to destroy
pathogens. If alkalinized water is not available, we recommend
filtered water and bottled water from a reliable source as better
choices than most municipal tap water. (We'll discuss the issue of
removing toxins from water and other environmental sources in
chapter 14 on detoxification.)
Another issue concerns the infrastructure of water. Magnetic
resonance imaging reveals that most tap water is organized into
microclusters of about 12 water molecules each. In alkalinized
water, the microclusters are reduced in size to only six molecules
per cluster. This enhances the permeability, solubility, and
absorption of the water, thereby boosting its detoxification
effects. Nutrients, including water-soluble vitamins such as
vitamins B and C, will be absorbed more fully, and medications taken
with alkaline water may be more effective.
Finally, most of us don't consume enough water to help dispose of
all the waste products our metabolic and digestive processes create.
Simply drinking more water can boost detoxification. We recommend
drinking one-half fluid ounce of water per pound of body weight
daily; that would be 70 fluid ounces for a 140-pound person, or
about nine 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Of course, soft drinks
and coffee don't count. It takes 32 glasses of pH 10 alkaline water
to neutralize one glass of pH 2.5 cola. We recommend avoiding these
acidic drinks and consuming alkaline water with a pH between 9.5 and
10.
Dartmouth researcher Heinz Valtin, M.D., has criticized this liquid
quota as an urban legend. Valtin's opinion, however, is based on
avoiding dehydration, whereas our recommendation for drinking
alkaline water is to assist detoxification.

The
Hidden Origin
of Statin Drugs By: Shane Ellison, M.Sc. Copyright © 2005, All Rights Reserved.

No one
would care to look twice – or even once – at the origin of statin
drugs. Except, perhaps, if you needed one more reason not to use
them or were an FDA-approved drug addict looking for an inexpensive
alternative.
The
origin of statin drugs is not a testament to the ingenuity and
innovation of drug companies. Despite enjoying an unprecedented
surge of momentum in popularity, statins are nothing more than an
isolated poison derived from the fungus known as red yeast rice (Monascus
purpurus).[1]
In a
natural response to the threat of a predator, red yeast produces
the drug known as lovastatin (as well as other chemicals).
Utilizing fundamental laboratory research, the discovery and
isolation of lovastatin from red yeast rice was paid for by the U.S.
government in the 1970s.[2] This secured a
monopoly of knowledge, allowing for the censorship of the truth
behind the wildly popular cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Commercially, lovastatin is known as Mevacor. It was the first
statin drug, released in 1987 by the U.S. government-influenced
company named Merck. Using a technique known as combinatorial
chemistry, other drug companies have since unleashed their own
versions. These versions include
Zocor,
Lipitor, Pravachol and Crestor.
As a
toxic agent, the consumption of lovastatin via red yeast rice by its
predators leads to sickness and in some cases, death. This is true
for humans as well. Lovastatin’s (and all other statin drugs)
toxicity is attributed to its ability to block cholesterol and CoQ10
production.
Low
levels of cholesterol and CoQ10 limit lifespan in humans. In 2005,
the
Journal of the American Geriatrics
Society
showed that
elderly people with
low levels of total cholesterol were approximately twice as likely
to die as those with high cholesterol.[3]
CoQ10 is a coenzyme necessary for the
production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). ATP is the source for
cellular energy within the human heart. As CoQ10 is
diminished, the heart weakens. Over time, this can result in
congestive heart failure (CHF).
Humans
appear to be so advanced, and yet they are the only species unable
to recognize this simple defense mechanism of red yeast rice.
Millions are blindly consuming statins as an elixir for longevity.
Consumption of this poison fungus has grown worldwide.
The
statin craze serves as a terrific example of how a little bit of
knowledge can be dangerous. Nowhere in the history of man has an
acknowledged poison been touted as a daily vitamin for every man,
woman and child. The scientific community should be proud. Statins
are the best selling drug of all time.

TWELVE
dynamic steps in building a holistic business from the
ground up
By Charlotte
Irwin
Growing Your
Holistic Business, Part II
6. ENERGY FLOWS WHERE ATTENTION GOES (importance of setting goals).
Manifestation is
about where you put your attention. Be truthful about how much time
and energy you really spend focused on starting your business. How
much are you willing to invest every day? 10% (2 hrs.), 20% (4
hrs.), etc. See if it matches up with the progress of your business
plan and where you expected it to be by this time. Remember, seeing
clients and business goals are very different. You have to give time
and attention to planning. Start today by writing down three people
who can help you start your business and a deadline when you will
contact them. I found I had to identify with what I really needed to
do. I could not see clients everyday and start a business. You need
to take a day or two specifically for business planning.
7. BE IN THE NOW!
Wake up every day
and ask yourself what exciting thing you are going to make happen
today. All abundance comes from God. It shows up in the appointments
people make, gift certificates people buy, and messengers calling to
see if you can do a presentation. Stay in the creation of it all
every day and your energy will become multiplied from the positive
energy. Every morning I pray: Give us this day our daily bread (for
all concerned). I show up at the office ready to do whatever the
tasks are on my list and then I watch how the energy flows. Where
there were no appointments on the book the previous day, the book is
filled!
8. DISCOVER WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE IN THE MARKET PLACE.
Why do people come
to you and not someone else? What is your uniqueness? Ask your
clients or your friends to describe you. They will let you know. You
may be pleasantly surprised; it may not be just the service you
provide.
9. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE ALREADY ESTABLISHED IN BUSINESS.
Don’t look at
similar businesses as competition, rather look to a support network
that can enhance one another. Build those relationships with strong
professional ethics and respect for each other. Help each other be
better. There is room for everyone.
10. STAY FOCUSED — MANAGE YOUR TIME.
People tell me every
day, “I don’t have time to...” Managing your time and staying
focused is a great skill to achieve. Find a process that works for
you. I write my list every day of the most important things I need
to accomplish and set my sights on completing that list before the
day is over. I focus on the list and stay away from people or phone
calls that may cause a distraction. I don’t answer calls while I am
working on an important task or project because I know that will
delay me or break my concentration. I am always very courteous to
people who try to drag me away from what I was supposed to do by
saying the truth, “I would love to hear all about that. Can I get
with you later? I need to stay focused on my project today.” I asked
a woman one time during a stress class about her stressors, and she
answered, “People call me all day long and I can’t get anything
done.” This is a perfect example of how we allow others to distract
us and become the stressor, when all we have to do is have good
boundaries about what we need to accomplish.
11. CREATE RESOURCES TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
Want to do a
presentation for your business? Create it first, then the phone will
ring. I write letters to a specific group telling them what I can
present and a similar group will call. You put the energy forth and
something will happen. When you do a presentation remember the ten
people there will tell four more people, so you really had forty
people there to hear about you!
12. BECOME THE TEMPLATE.
Discipline yourself
to stay balanced yourself. Practice what you preach. Plan your day
to include positive habits like exercising, working, loving and
playing. Remember it takes a lot of energy to start and build a
successful business and it can only happen if you take care of
yourself. Eat right, keep in balance with yoga, massage, tai chi, or
other healing modalities, and most of all be in joy with what you
are doing as you are doing it, even if it’s cleaning the toilets.

Fantastic Voyage :
Live Long Enough to Live Forever
by Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman
The idea behind
Kurzweil and Grossman's Fantastic Voyage is that if you can make it
through the next 50 years, you might become immortal. How will that
be possible? Through some rather science fictional steps, it turns
out, including taking advantage of the latest in biotechnological
breakthroughs and not-yet-invented nanotechnology. Is all this
longing for immortality driven by an obsession with youth or a fear
of death? Readers can judge for themselves, as both Kurzweil and
Grossman reveal the personal histories that led them to develop this
plan. Fantastic Voyage is written in an easy-to-understand tone,
with lots of sidebars giving examples of what the future holds for
medicine and health. Whether or not you think that science will find
a way to keep our bodies or our disembodied minds alive forever,
this book is full of diet and lifestyle tips. For instance, the
authors suggest carefully controlling the body's overall pH at an
alkaline level, meditating, eating a diet composed mostly of
vegetables and protein, and taking loads of supplements (Kurzweil
downs about 250 pills each day).
Try this at home!

Mix all dry ingredients and cherries together in a large mixing bowl
and set aside. Place the syrups and nut butter in a medium saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce the flame to medium,
and continue stirring for about 5 to 7 minutes until the mixture
does not drip off the spoon easily.
Quickly pour the syrup mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well
until all dry ingredients are evenly coated with the syrup. Take two
13” x 9” baking dishes and lightly moisten with water. Place half of
the mixture in each dish. Moisten your ands with cold water and
firmly press the grain mixture down evenly in the dishes until firm.
Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to harden. Cut into bars or
squares and enjoy!
The bars may be individually wrapped and kept in the freezer to
store. Remove when ready to eat. They will thaw out quickly.
